About Us

Westchester’s waste-to-energy facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of up to 2,250 tons per day of everyday household and business waste for Westchester County, using the waste as local fuel to generate 60 MW of clean, renewable electricity for sale to the local utility, enough power to supply the electrical needs of 30,394 New York homes as well as its own operations.

Located in Peekskill, New York, a community with a 51 percent municipal recycling rate in 2010 — far exceeding the national average — Wheelabrator Westchester is proud of its record of metals recycling from waste, topping more than 12,000 tons in 2016.

The facility also provides green steam to White Plains Linen, partnering with the commercial laundry operation in a newly constructed steam line to power their operations and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels—another example of how a local-energy ecosystem uses waste as a local fuel for steam and power for local homes and businesses.

As part of its commitment to the environment, employees from Wheelabrator Westchester partner with local middle schools, empowering students to be active environmental stewards in their local community.
