SUMMARY:History Hike: Benedict Arnold's Flight
DESCRIPTION:General Benedict Arnold is infamous for his thwarted plan to surrender American-controlled West Point to the British during the Revolutionary War. Join PHM for a history hike of Arnold's escape path through present day Garrison\, NY. Along the way we'll discuss why the General was driven to betray the Revolution and how prominent local loyalist Beverly Robinson aided Arnold's mission. W?e will be joined by Cornell Cooperative Extension and they will explore some of the ways that the natural environment plays a part in the history of the area. This history hike includes scenic views of the Hudson River and West Point and will last approximately 1.5 hours. The trail is one mile in length but includes uneven rocky terrain and several steep hills. Appropriate footwear and active/outdoor attire strongly suggested. Participants will be required to sign a release before the event. Starting Location: Marsha's Mile / Glenclyffe Trailhead Parking Lot\, 8 Glenclyffe\, Philipstown\, NY 10524. The parking lot is on the right hand side immediately after turning from 9D onto Glenclyffe. Hike Difficulty: Moderate. Path includes several steep hills and sections of rocky\, uneven terrain.
